The Shard Shark
During my freshman year at Northwestern, I worked on a team of four to design and build this prototype of a commercial product. We built the Shard Shark for a Design, Thinking and Communication course.
The challenge for this course was to develop a new commercial product that solves a problem, while focusing on user-centered design.
We developed the Shard Shark, which picks up broken glass shards from a variety of surfaces. It's intended to be easy to use and a simple clean-up product that could one day be a common necessity for kitchens, machine shops and science labs.
The Shard Shark is a broom handle attachment and uses a sticky roller to pick up glass shards in a variety of sizes. The non-stick edges of the roller allow for easy removal and disposal of the roller once the glass shards are picked up.
